PRIVACY POLICY
The Tower has no account, no server and no analytics. Your climb lives on your phone, and it only goes somewhere else if you send it there. Two things leave the phone: the optional rewarded video ads, which come from the ad network Appodeal, and crash reports, so a crash can be fixed, which you can turn off in Settings.
Who we are
The Tower is made by Hidden Project (hiddenproject.tech). Questions about this policy go to [email protected].
What we collect: crash reports
If the game crashes or hits an error, it sends a report to Firebase Crashlytics, a service run by Google for us. A report contains:
- the error and where in the game's code it happened;
- your phone's model, operating system version, and state at the time, such as free memory and storage;
- the version of the game;
- a random identifier for this installation, so that repeat crashes on one phone can be counted as one. It is not linked to you, your Google account or your climber, and it changes if you reinstall the game.
Crashlytics also records when the game is opened, so it can tell what share of sessions end in a crash.
A report never contains your climber's name, your save, or anything else about your climb. We use crash reports only to find and fix bugs. We do not sell them, share them, or use them for advertising. Google keeps them for 90 days and processes them under the Firebase privacy terms.
Turning it off: Settings → Send crash reports. When it is off, nothing is sent.
Ads
The game is free and has nothing to buy. It is paid for by rewarded video ads, and only those: no banners, no ads that interrupt play. An ad is shown only when you tap a button that offers one, such as Double it on unclaimed loot, and only if you watch it to the end does the game give you the reward. Ignoring every ad costs you nothing you already have.
The ads come from Appodeal, which picks an ad from the networks it works with. To fetch and show one, Appodeal and those networks receive, from your phone:
- your device's advertising ID, which you can reset or delete in your phone's settings (Settings → Google → Ads on most Android phones);
- your IP address, from which a rough location, such as the country, can be worked out;
- technical details: your phone's make and model, operating system, language, screen, network type and the app's version;
- how you interact with the ad: whether it was shown, watched to the end or tapped.
They use this to choose and measure ads and to prevent fraud and, where you allow it, to show ads based on your interests. The game does not give them your climber's name, your save or anything about your climb, and we do not receive what they collect beyond totals of ads shown. This is handled under Appodeal's privacy policy, which also lists the networks it works with and links to theirs.
Your choices: where the law asks for consent before personalised ads, such as in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, the game asks you first, through a consent form from Appodeal. Where you have a right to change that choice later, or to opt out of the sale or sharing of your data, such as in some US states, Settings shows Ad privacy choices. You can also turn off personalised ads for every app in your phone's settings. Not watching ads at all is always a choice: no ad is ever shown that you did not ask for.
Apart from ads and crash reports the game sends nothing. It has no analytics and no other third-party tracking of any kind.
What stays on your phone
- Your climb: the name you give your climber, and your progress, items, skills and settings within the game. It is kept in one save file in the app's private storage, where other apps cannot read it.
- Your preferences: whether music and sound effects are on, the language, and whether crash reports are sent.
None of this leaves the device through the game. Uninstalling the app, or using Delete this climber in Settings, removes it.
Backups by your phone
Android may include the save in your device's own backup, such as Google's backup to your Google Account, and may carry it to a new phone during setup. That is a feature of your phone, not of the game. It follows your device's backup settings and Google's privacy policy, and you can turn it off in your phone's settings. We never receive these backups.
Save files you export
Export save in Settings creates a file containing your climb and hands it to your phone's share sheet. Where it goes next, such as a cloud drive, an email or a message, is your choice, and is covered by that service's own policy. Import save reads only the file you pick.
If you email us
Writing to support opens your own mail app. If you send the message, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include, such as an attached save file. We use it only to answer you, we do not share it, and we delete it once it is no longer needed for that.
Children
The Tower is not directed at children under 13 and does not ask anyone, of any age, for personal information. Crash reports are technical, contain nothing that identifies a person, and are used only to fix the game. Ads are only ever shown when the player asks for one.
Changes to this policy
If a future version of the game ever handles data differently, for example by adding analytics or another kind of ad, this policy will be updated before that version is released. The date at the top will change with it. Versions before 0.1.2 show no ads and send nothing but crash reports.
